Starting March 24, 2025, Shopware will update its General Terms & Conditions. A key part of this update is the new Fair Usage Policy for the free Shopware 6 Community Edition. Here's a quick overview of what changes – and what actions you may need to take as a store owner.
What is the Fair Usage Policy?
Shopware’s goal is to ensure a fair and sustainable ecosystem for all Community Edition users. The open-source version remains available under the MIT license. However, businesses are now categorized based on their annual Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).
Key facts at a glance
- The Shopware 6 Community Edition remains free and open source.
- Stores generating less than €1 million in annual GMV can continue using the Shopware Account and Store without changes.
- Stores exceeding €1M in GMV must upgrade to a paid plan (Rise, Evolve, or Beyond) to retain full access.
- Alternatively, you can continue using Shopware freely without the Shopware Account or Store access.
- A GMV reporting plugin is available to support compliance.
What does this mean for store owners?
If your store is growing and approaching (or already over) the €1M GMV threshold, now is the time to act. Even if you're still below the limit, early preparation ensures a smooth transition and prevents disruptions.
Shopware will launch a migration offer in May 2025. To qualify, you’ll need to meet certain requirements – like activating the GMV reporting plugin by April 30, 2025.
Summary: Act now and stay ahead
The new Fair Usage Policy affects every serious user of the Shopware Community Edition. Understanding the new rules early will help you avoid restrictions and plan your next steps confidently.
